BonsaiLog ("the App") is a mobile application for recording bonsai trees and care history. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This policy describes how the App handles information.

1. Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores the following information only on your device. None of this data is transmitted to our servers or any third party, except as described in sections 3 and 4 below.

• Bonsai records (name, species, style, acquired date, notes, tags)
• Care history — 14 types of care events: watering, pruning, wiring, unwiring, repotting, fertilizing, pest control, leaf trimming, defoliation, bud removal, candle cut, moss care, position change, and leaf first aid
• Photos (captured or selected photos of your bonsai, stored in the app's local document directory)
• Search history (stored locally in device memory only)
• Care reminders (notification schedules, stored locally)
• User preferences (language, color theme, notification settings)

The App does not require account registration and does not collect personal information such as name, email address, phone number, mailing address, or location data.

2. Optional Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions. All are optional:

• Camera — to take photos of your bonsai. Used only when you actively take a photo within the App.
• Photo library — to select existing photos from your device.
• Notifications — to send local care reminders you set yourself. The App does not use push notifications from external servers.

The App never accesses your location. No GPS coordinates, city, region, or any location data are collected or stored.

You can revoke any permission at any time in your device Settings. Revoking a permission does not delete your existing data.

3. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Google AdMob (Free plan users only) — Delivers banner ads on the home screen. When ads are shown, advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS / Advertising ID on Android) may be sent to AdMob. Pro users see no ads and no advertising identifiers are used. See Google Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat — Manages in-app subscriptions and purchases using anonymous identifiers. No personal information is transmitted to RevenueCat. See RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
• Apple App Store / Google Play — App distribution and billing. Payment information is handled entirely by the respective store; the App never receives or stores payment details.
• Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — Collects crash and error diagnostics to help us identify and fix stability issues. Sentry receives crash logs, stack traces, device model and OS version, and a random per-install identifier. No name, email, photos, or journal content is ever sent; all personally identifiable information is scrubbed before transmission. See Sentry Privacy Policy.

4. Advertising, GDPR/UMP & App Tracking Transparency

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the App displays a GDPR-compliant consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) at startup. This lets you control whether personalized ads are shown.

On iOS, the App requests App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission before using IDFA for advertising purposes. If you decline, the App continues to function normally and non-personalized ads are shown instead.

You can change your ad preferences at any time via the privacy options in the App's settings.

5. No AI / No Recommendation Features

The App does not perform any AI-based species identification, disease diagnosis, or care recommendation. The App's role is to record (a journal), not to judge or recommend. Notifications are sent only for schedules you set; the App never decides what you should do with your bonsai.

6. Where Data Is Stored

All user data is stored locally on your device:

• Bonsai and care records — SQLite database in the app's document directory
• Preferences and settings — AsyncStorage (device-local storage)
• Sensitive tokens (e.g. purchase state) — iOS Keychain / Android Keystore via SecureStore
• Photos — JPEG files in the app's document directory

No cloud sync is performed. Data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it using the migration feature (F-11 Move Data).

7. Data Deletion

Because the App stores all data locally on your device, uninstalling the App completely deletes all your data. No separate deletion request to us is required.

You can also use the migration feature to export and manage your data before uninstalling.

8. Children

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes within the App or by updating the "Last updated" date on this page.
